How To: Protect your account with two factor authentication

Step 1 - Option 1: Configure an authenticator app

In this step you will configure an authenticator app. An authenticator app can be downloaded for most smarthphones. If you can't use an authenticator app, you can also use a verified email address or mobile phone number (see Option 2 and 3).

  • Navigate to your Profile Page.

  • Click in the left navigation on Security Information.

  • Click on Configure two factor authentication.

  • Start your authenticator app. If your app supports this you can scan the QR-code to configure the authenticator app. If not, you can manually enter the code displayed.

  • To verify that the pairing was successful, enter the code displayed on your authenticator app in the Verification Code field.

  • Click Set.

Step 1 - Option 2: Verify your email address

In this step you will verify your email address. If you can't use a verified email address, you can also use an authenticator app or mobile phone number (see Option 1 and 3).

  • Navigate to your Profile Page.

  • Click in the left navigation on Security Information.

  • Click Verify in the Email Address section.

  • Click Verify. An email will be send to the your email address.

  • Click the link in the received email to complete the verification.

Step 1 - Option 3: Verify your mobile phone number

In this step you will verify your mobile phone number. If you can't use a verified mobile phone number, you can also use an authenticator app or a verified email address (see Option 1 and 2).
Verification of a mobile phone number is only possible when an SMS provider has been configured.

  • Navigate to your Profile Page.

  • Click in the left navigation on Security Information.

  • Click Verify in the Mobile phone number section.

  • Click Verify. A sms with a verification code will be send to you mobile phone.

  • Enter the verification code and click Set.


Step 3 - Activate two factor authentication

In this step you will activate two factor authentication for your account.

  • Navigate to your Profile Page.

  • Click in the left navigation on Security Information.

  • Click Configure two factor authentication in the Two factor authentication section.

  • Enter a code generated by your authenticator app in the Verification code field. If you do not have an authenticator app, you can get a code by clicking request a code via email or request a code via sms.

  • Click Set.


Step 4 - Sign in with your account

In this step you will sign in with your account that is protected with two factor authentication.

  • Navigate to the Sign in Page.

  • Sign in using your Account Provider. After signing in you will be asked to enter a Verification Code.

  • Enter a code generated by your authenticator app in the Verification code field. If you do not have an authenticator app, you can get a code by clicking Send verification code by email or Send verification code by sms.

  • If you are on a secure device only used by you can check I sign in frequently on this device. Don't ask me for a code. The next time you sign in, you will no longer be required to enter a Verfication Code for this device.

  • Click Verify.
